In a Facebook post, Sotto said the laboratory operations are nearing 100-percent functional status, which would help the local government to settle some recent backlogs on the Covid-19 testing.
Pasig has been catering polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing and enhanced chemiluminescence immunoassay (ECLIA) testing, Sotto added.
He earlier explained that ECLIA, a method used for antibody test for Covid-19, has a sensitivity or specificity rate of about 100 percent if used properly and the test results will be readily available in 24 hours.
Sotto said the molecular laboratory can also be useful even after the country surpasses the prevailing coronavirus crisis.

"Magagamit natin ang lab/machines kahit pagkatapos ng pandemya—dengue, HIV, etc (We can still use the laboratory and the machines even after the pandemic—for testing blood samples for dengue, HIV, etc)," he said. The city government is currently working on the molecular laboratory's certificate of registration and accreditation with the Department of Health (DOH), Sotto said.
The laboratory is located at the Pasig City Children's Hospital (PCCH)—the city's current Covid-19 referral center.
On the other hand, Sotto said the 200 newly hired healthcare workers are now starting their contact tracing jobs, in response to the spike of the Covid-19 cases in the city.
